Anime Reviews, Rants, and Revelations!

Mmmk, y'all! Here's the next installment of my anime rantings!

--------------
Magical Lyrical Nanoha A's (season 2)

After finishing the B+ first season, I went into season 2 not expecting much, but as I finish up the second episode (a gripping two-part premier!), I am astounded. Nanoha A's is following all the classic rules of mahou shoujo anime (remember the first few episodes of Sailor Moon S, y'all?), and in following them...breaks them completely. I was left speechless and on the edge of my seat when ep 2 came to a close, and cannot wait to go into 3, and the rest of the 13-episode series. If you can make it through the all-right first season (remember how mediocre Sailor Moon classic got after a while?), definitely go for A's!

--------------
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (english title: "When They Cry...")

This drama from the Spring 2006 season presents a normal, everyday country town in Japan. Think "Zettai Shounen" from Summer 2005, but add in gruesome violence and demonic possession. The story is based off of several fan-made games, so every four episodes, the story resets, and a new arc plays out, basing itself on the previously-established rules of the show. This show borders on the line of dementia and compelling mystery, as it switches between a dusty, slice of live story, into a "The Shining"-esque thriller sequence (honestly.....if you know Zettai Shounen...this is the R-rated version....without aliens). "Higurashi" will be out on DVD in June (I have a pre-downloaded set of episodes now...just finished episode 5), and I will surely keep track of the releases, and will possibly buy a thinpak of the show. It is intense, bloody, and will definitely keep you on your toes! Highly recommended!
